Convoy Logistics Providers welcomes MCS in North America

Convoy Logistics Providers Ltd. (CLP), a privately held Canadian Company, is thrilled to welcome Carl Sorensen and Marine Charter Services (MCS) as they expand their services and presence in North America with the first USA Convoy Logistics Providers office, opening in Houston on April 1, 2022.

Carl Sorensen, founder, CEO and General Manager of MCS and Dona Asciak, founder and CEO of CLP met and worked together more than 20 years ago.

Despite the current global environment and dealing with the pandemic and business growth in project services, MCS, now in business for 9 years and operating out of Houston, TX and CLP, located in Toronto, ON and celebrating 20 years in business this year, were able to create an opportunity to work together throughout most of 2021 on two significant projects. One project included the provision of six vessel charters, including direct discharge to and delivery by barge, to a General Dynamics Project in Connecticut. A second and somewhat larger collaboration saw CLP and MCS working together to receive two vessel charters in Port of Longview, WA comprised of twenty HRSG modules on one vessel, and more then 10,000 FRT of cargo on the other, then transport and deliver the cargo through the combined services of rail, gantry offload, and inland delivery by road to Suncor in Fort McMurray, AB for the expanding Suncor Energy CBR project. The old expression, “necessity is the mother of invention” proved that collectively, we have a great team and that these efforts have increased our opportunity to expand our scope and services by working together.

Their joint services will continue to offer the full range of Freight Forwarding and Logistics project services, specializing in the niche market of Project Cargo logistics solutions. These niche services range from research, feasibility and consulting to organization and implementation of Logistics services – including managing origin and/or destination inlands, rigging, rail and port services as well as barge, vessel chartering and onsite attendance at project sites. Their joint experience and dedication to service, together with their innovative solutions, are all evidenced in their work – whether it be a project in its infancy stages where clients require research and/or feasibility support, a turnkey logistics solution for a project in motion, or anywhere in between. They are, of course, also servicing their clients’ specialty container equipment and Break Bulk needs as an accompaniment to their Project services.

To complement their logistics services, CLP is a member of CIFFA, NCBFFA, RICA, SCR&A, PCN, PLA and FIATA. Additionally, they continue to maintain their corporate infrastructure, having recently upgraded their management standards certification to ISO9001:2015, as well as having finalized an initiative to implement their own proprietary HSE plan that is now part of the fabric of their organization.
