Barrus reports succesfull transportation to Amursk plant

Barrus have reported that the transportation of low- and high-pressure self-evaporators from Tarragona, Spain to the construction site of Amursk Hydrometallurgical Plant has been completed.

The self-evaporators were delivered from Tarragona with transshipment from the ocean vessel with its own cranes to a barge in Soviet Harbor, followed by unloading from the barge onto the pier in Amursk and delivery to the construction site of Amursk Hydrometallurgical Plant.

The main OOGs were:Low pressure self-evaporator: 1,180 x 737 x 728 cm / 85 t; High pressure self-evaporator: 1,061 x 568 x 567 cm / 71.4 t.

Barrus’s project team has designed and built a special RO-RO pier in Amursk during the transportation of a 1100 tn autoclave from Antwerp to Amursk in 2020. The pier allowed for the equipment to be unloaded from the barge by means of an intermediate support on which a set of padded panels of required height lay, provided that the water level fluctuated in the Amur in the range of 3m.

Due to the abnormally high water level in the river in 2021, the permissible level provided for by the design of the berth was exceeded by 1.5 m . In order to solve the issue with the customer Amursk POX hub, the demurrage of the barge was discussed in anticipation of lower water levels or additional construction of a simplified RO-RO jetty at another location in Amursk. However, our specialists have found a technical solution to increase the maximum height of the intermediate support, and as a result, the unloading of self-evaporators was carried out at the existing pier, thus avoiding delays in delivery and additional construction costs for the new RO-RO jetty.

Due to the high-water level, the installation of the lining panels on the suspended spans was carried out with the involvement of divers. The high current and turbidity of the water in the Amur made this work extremely difficult, but preparations of the pier were completed just before the arrival of the barge with cargo.

In order to reduce the delivery time from the pier to the construction site 2 light-weight tanks were reloaded by crane from modular axes to low-frame trailers. As a result, all shipments were delivered by two convoys over two nights.
