TII KAMAG receives order for six KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers
TII KAMAG has received an order from a Brazilian mining company for six KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers (SPC) featuring a U-frame design.
Each vehicle offers a payload capacity of 140 tonnes and will be deployed as part of a fleet renewal programme at an existing nickel plant in Brazil. There, the vehicles will transport hot slag between the plant and a remote slag disposal site.
The new KAMAG Slag Pot Carriers (SPC) will replace the customer’s current vehicle fleet and, for the first time, opting for vehicles from the TII Group.
Alongside technical performance, reliable support throughout the vehicles’ entire service life was a key factor in their decision. Together with its long-standing local partner RIMAC, TII KAMAG therefore developed a comprehensive solution combining vehicle technology, digital services and a long-term supply of spare parts.
The route between the nickel plant and the slag disposal site places particular demands on the vehicles. Over a section approximately one kilometre in length, the Slag Pot Carriers must safely and reliably negotiate gradients of up to five per cent while carrying heavy loads.
TII KAMAG adapted the vehicles to these conditions. For the first time, Slag Pot Carriers in this series are equipped with powerful Caterpillar C18 diesel engines delivering 429 kW. They provide the power reserves required for fully loaded operation along the demanding route. The six KAMAG SPC offer a payload capacity of 140 tonnes and are designed for slag pots with a volume of up to 30 cubic metres.
“Our Slag Pot Carriers are based on an established vehicle concept that we configure specifically for the respective operating conditions. Working closely with the customer, we defined a high-performance overall solution that meets the requirements on site and combines high operational reliability with dependable service,” says Oliver Schwarz, Area Sales Manager at TII Group.
A tyre pressure monitoring system continuously monitors the condition of the tyres during operation. This is particularly important given the long transport distances and the remote location of the slag disposal site. Deviations can be detected at an early stage, helping to prevent unplanned downtime.
To ensure consistently reliable braking performance on downhill sections, the vehicles are equipped with wet multi-disc brakes. As the friction discs run entirely in oil, the heat generated is dissipated effectively. This ensures stable braking performance even during repeated downhill runs with a full load. At the same time, the system reduces wear and therefore lowers maintenance requirements and the risk of unplanned downtime.
Another key focus of the order is the rapid availability of service support and short response times when service is required. The KAMAG SPC are equipped with KAMAG Connect. It transmits current vehicle notifications and fault messages.
Detailed fault codes help to identify potential maintenance requirements at an early stage and allow service assignments to be prepared more effectively. TII KAMAG can analyse the available information before a technician arrives on site and coordinate the necessary technical measures and provision of suitable spare parts more efficiently. This shortens diagnostic and response times and helps to minimise unplanned downtime.
KAMAG Connect is complemented by a spare parts agreement for this particular project, covering the first years of operation. Together with the local support provided by RIMAC, this creates a comprehensive service concept designed to ensure high fleet availability.
Sales, project coordination and service are being handled in close cooperation with RIMAC. The company has been an important sales and service partner of the TII Group in Brazil for many years. The long-standing cooperation, extensive market knowledge and local service expertise of RIMAC ensure reliable on-site support for customers.
The six vehicles are being delivered in stages. The first Slag Pot Carrier is already on its way to Brazil, while two more units were recently completed. The remaining three vehicles are scheduled for delivery by the end of 2026.
With this order, TII KAMAG is strengthening its position as a provider of application-specific transport solutions for the metallurgical and mining industries. At the same time, the project underlines the company’s commitment to combining sophisticated vehicle technology, digital connectivity, long-term spare parts supply and reliable local service in a comprehensive package.
