Rhenus and Schwalbe extend collaboration

Rhenus and Schwalbe are building upon their successful collaboration and extending their contract for another five years.

The Rhenus logistics centre in Wesel, Germany will henceforth handle the complete after-sales goods volume of Europe’s leading bicycle tyre manufacture. Efficient and more sustainable routes, together with a tailored warehouse set-up, were decisive factors in strengthening the partnership.

Decisive criteria for the contract extension included, among other things, the sustainability credentials of the Rhenus site in Wesel. Short transport routes to and from Rotterdam, the use of electric trucks, geothermal energy and the photovoltaic installation all played an important role. “We are delighted to further expand our collaboration with Schwalbe at our modern logistics centre in Wesel and that we have been able to convince our customer in the long term through our customised service concept and the short, efficient transport routes,” says Andreas Mayer, Member of the Management Board of Rhenus Warehousing Solutions. Over the past 2.5 years, Rhenus has stored Schwalbe high-tech tyres in carton packaging at the Wesel site. The scope is now being expanded to include the storage of bale goods. “For the warehouse concept tailored to our customer, we have rebuilt our racking system in recent weeks and, through the use of modern fire protection technologies, meet all requirements for the storage of Schwalbe products,” explains Henning Brands, Branch Manager, Rhenus Warehousing Wesel.

The extensive conversion work was necessary in order to safely and efficiently store the entire after-sales goods volume in Wesel. “We value the ability and flexibility of Rhenus to manage large and complex logistics processes end-to-end while responding to our requirements in a tailored, reliable and competent manner,” says Peer Ole Kuck, Head of Logistics at Schwalbe.
