Rhenus continues to expand with MTS Malmo acquisition

The global logistics specialist, Rhenus, is continuing to expand its network in Scandinavia by acquiring the Swedish road transport specialist, MTS Malmö Transport & Spedition AB.

Rhenus is therefore enhancing its portfolio of services in shipping general cargo and temperature-controlled goods as well as customs clearance – and is gaining new routes to Central and Eastern Europe as well as Turkey.

MTS Malmö Transport & Spedition AB can look back on over 30 years of logistics experience and operates from a cross dock facility in the southern Swedish city and logistics hub of Malmö. MTS offers its customers all types of transport such as FTL, LTL, groupage, ADR and temperature-controlled vehicles for pharmaceuticals, fresh produce and other temperature-sensitive goods. MTS has also been AEO certified by the Swedish customs authority and therefore guarantees smooth customs clearance for its customers. The terminal in Malmö has bonded warehouse status. The company brings with it existing and well established routes to Central and Eastern European markets, as well as Turkey.

MTS fits well into the Rhenus Group’s growing network in Scandinavia. “By taking over MTS in Sweden, we’re once again strengthening our position in Northern Europe. Our customers, both those based in Sweden and in other markets, will benefit from the extended portfolio of services, the far-reaching expertise and the diversified trade lanes that MTS can offer,” says Alexander Olsen, the Managing Director of Rhenus Sweden.

Looking towards the Scandinavian region as a whole, the Rhenus Group has been rapidly expanding throughout the region in the past year. Rhenus opened business sites in Norway and Denmark in 2022 and acquired one of the leading Danish third-party logistics specialists, DKI, which has 310,000 square metres of storage space, during the same year. Rhenus believes that there is enormous growth potential in the Nordic region and is also planning to make further investments there in future.
