This weekend brought bad news, but not new news \u2014 not to HOPA, nor Ontario\u2019s port cities. <\/strong><\/p>\n

We put our response into action when it became clear the future would look very different. Where we\u2019re from, in Ontario\u2019s industrial heartland, we know resilience and hard work. And we know that economic success belongs to those willing to step up and seize opportunity.<\/p>\n

As Ontario\u2019s port network, HOPA is going where Canada needs to go, now: strengthening domestic supply chains, backing Canadian industry, and creating new opportunities for growth.<\/p>\n

In Hamilton, we\u2019re helping a modern agri-food and food-processing cluster take shape, bringing producers, processors, transportation and markets together, shoring up domestic food security.<\/p>\n

Building on Hamilton\u2019s steel city grit, we are creating new opportunities to re-shore industrial capacity in strategic manufacturing.<\/p>\n

Canada is re-emerging as a global leader in nuclear technology, and HOPA is proactively helping to connect the industrial sites, manufacturers, suppliers and transportation networks the sector needs to scale.<\/p>\n

At the Port of Oshawa, we\u2019re strengthening the supply chains that build Canada, from housing and infrastructure to manufacturing \u2014 and understanding how these same capabilities can underpin the defence sector.<\/p>\n

And in Sault Ste. Marie, HOPA is proposing something Northern Ontario needs: a modern port connecting northern resource regions with southern Ontario\u2019s manufacturing and consumer markets. That connection will open new domestic and overseas markets for value-added forest products, steel, mining and critical minerals.<\/p>\n

This is what a port authority is built to do: turn industrial and trade infrastructure into national prosperity. Canada needs stronger connections between its regions, resources, manufacturers and markets. It needs supply chains that allow the country to be its own best customer while diversifying abroad.<\/p>\n

There is work ahead for all of us. In Canada\u2019s industrial port cities, the lift is heavier. But we are strong, the path is clear, and we\u2019re already making it happen.<\/p>\n
