Alexander Global Logistics (AGL), a member of the Project Logistics Alliance representing Germany, officially launched its latest construction project with a groundbreaking ceremony on July 21st, 2025. <\/strong><\/p>\n

The forward-looking facility is located at Grauwallring 5 in Bremerhaven, and the ceremony was joined by Mayor Melf Grantz and representatives from the local government, as AGL has set a milestone for Bremerhaven as a logistics hub.<\/p>\n

Located near the container terminal, a state-of-the-art logistics facility is being built on a 30,000 m\u00b2 site, featuring 18,000 m\u00b2 of warehouse space and direct rail access. The facility is specifically designed for the handling and storage of pulp and paper products.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith this investment of approximately 20 million euros, we are not only strengthening our position as a leading logistics provider for forest products but also reaffirming our long-term commitment to Bremerhaven as a business location,\u201d emphasizes Alexander Hellmers, CEO of AGL. \u201cThe project will create over 20 new jobs and secure more than 10 existing ones, a strong signal for the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The construction project combines economic growth with sustainable infrastructure: a 1.7-megawatt photovoltaic system will enable largely CO\u2082-neutral operations. The rail connection will reduce truck traffic and significantly improve the facility\u2019s carbon footprint.<\/p>\n

Mayor Melf Grantz highlighted the investment\u2019s importance for the region: \u201cProjects like this are key to Bremerhaven\u2019s economic development. AGL is demonstrating how sustainable industrial policy and job creation can go hand in hand.\u201d Bremerhaven\u2019s economic development agency also sees the project as a groundbreaking initiative.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe combination of logistics expertise, innovation, and sustainability is exemplary. This new facility reinforces Bremerhaven\u2019s role as an international logistics hub,\u201d explains Nils Schnorrenberger, Managing Director of BIS Bremerhaven Economic Development Company.<\/p>\n

The new facility will complement the existing AGL site at Grauwallring 21, which already features 35,000 m\u00b2 of warehouse space. With this expansion, AGL\u2019s total logistics space in Bremerhaven will grow to over 260,000 m\u00b2. This makes AGL one of the largest specialized handling facilities for paper, pulp, and forest products in Europe.<\/p>\n

Additionally, team AGL is expanding the company\u2019s technical capabilities at the Bremerhaven facility, enabling the safe and efficient handling of horizontal paper rolls weighing up to 4 tons. This upgrade includes a specially developed spindle attachment, a powerful 5\u202ft Linde E50 forklift, and a 4.5\u202ft capacity spindle mount\u2014all designed to minimize product stress during handling.<\/p>\n

Due to their dimensions, these rolls can only be transported lying down, a process that requires both expertise and the right equipment. AGL is now among the few logistics hubs in Northern Germany capable of offering this specialized handling.<\/p>\n

Thanks to targeted investments in various spindle models, AGL can now seamlessly handle a wide range of cargo types, from roll and bale clamps to horizontal paper rolls, ensuring high flexibility and product protection.<\/p>\n

Damage to the rolls during container loading at origin is often caused by improper equipment \u2013 typically when using standard forks instead of spindle tools. AGL is closing this gap to ensure cargo arrives in perfect condition.<\/p>\n
