AqualisBraemar continues work with MtS
AqualisBraemar LOC, the energy and marine consultant, is pleased to continue working with The Mission to Seafarers (‘MtS’) as one of the charities it supports.
“We are really pleased to make this statement reflecting our support for The Mission to Seafarers and the seafarers it serves. This is a charity which resonates with us given a large portion of our staff come from seafaring backgrounds themselves. We recognise the vital role MtS plays in providing practical, emotional and pastoral care to men and women working at sea – particularly in these times following the vast impact of the pandemic on shipping communities,” says David Wells, CEO of AqualisBraemar LOC.
MtS is one of the largest maritime charities serving the global community of 1.5 million seafarers via access points in over 200 ports worldwide. It identifies and provides a broad range of initiatives targeted at supporting the wellbeing of seafaring men and women, and their families in a number of ways. This includes funding the innovation of technology solutions to improve communications for seafarers, so they can contact home and any support they need.
MtS’s work is particularly key in supporting seafarer wellbeing amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, which has severely impacted maritime communities through an unprecedented disruption to crew changes. In response to this, MtS launched its 2021 campaign to be focused on ‘Sustaining Crew Welfare’. This campaign identifies three key streams for investment: (1) an innovation fund to support regional development, (2) justice & welfare support including repatriation, representation, health and wellbeing, (3) and family support.
AqualisBraemar LOC has already begun its support, participating in this year’s Race the Thames fundraising event. It now looks ahead to many other exciting initiatives which are being developed to come on stream later this year.
“With shipping industries carrying more than 90% of worldwide goods, combined with our own first-hand experience in supporting maritime sectors to de-risk marine operations, we understand the vital role seafarers play in the global supply chain, but also we recognise how their work impacts on all of our lives. The crew change crisis not only risks the integrity of marine operations and global supply lines at sea, but it is also damaging to the mental health and wellbeing of our sailors,” says Mark McGurran, Managing Director for Maritime.

In March this year AqualisBraemar LOC joined over 800 companies as a signatory to the Global Maritime Forum’s Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change, which MtS has also signed.
