Rhenus invests in the future

A new Sennebogen 870E hybrid excavator has been put into operation at the traditional site in the port of Stuttgart, where the Rhenus Group has now been operating successfully for 66 years and thus since the early days of the port.

The special features of the material handling excavator include its energy-efficient design and advanced technology. This investment in the future underlines the Rhenus Group’s efforts to meet the requirements of modern logistics with innovative solutions.

With the new dredger, Rhenus is continuing to invest in the future of its port sites and in sustainable handling equipment. It is more efficient thanks to an energy recovery system that saves up to 30 percent energy compared to non-hybrid models. With a 10kV power supply and its own transformer on board, it has been specially equipped for operation at the port of Stuttgart. Whether scrap, animal feed, building materials or soil – with an hourly output of up to 300 tons and a load capacity of over 15 tons in hook operation, the new excavator is ready for the diverse challenges of the port terminal. Thanks to the quick-change system, the excavator can switch flexibly between different attachments and thus react quickly to the various tasks at the terminal.

The new excavator can also travel along the entire 840-meter-long, extensively renovated quay wall. Rhenus is replacing three older cranes with the new handling excavator, which were dismantled after 66 years of loyal service and handling millions of tons. Rhenus has been an integral part of the Port of Stuttgart for more than six decades – and therefore since the port’s early days – and has made a name for itself thanks to the trimodal connection of its terminal – by ship, truck and rail. This versatile infrastructure makes it possible to respond flexibly to customer requirements and transport a wide variety of goods efficiently. As a recognized training company, the company also makes an important contribution to promoting the next generation of skilled workers in the port.
